Rhodolite Garnet

Garnet. The birthstone for January, as well as a second wedding anniversary stone is well known for its deep bllod red color. But did you know that garnets come in other colors as well? I would like to introduce you to...

Rhodolite garnet

With its luscious purplish red to pinkish color, it is a younger, more modern option for garnets than the traditional red. They both have the same crystal structure but have varying chemical compositions, hence the color variation.

Used as gemstones in jewelry since the Bronze Age, garnets have adorned Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt and were the focal point in signet rings in the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, garnets became the stone of choice for nobility, as well as clergy.

Rhodolite garnet is mined in a few places around the world today with Africa being the main producer of the world. Other countries that have garnet deposits are Myanmar, Brazil, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, as well as the United States.

With a MOHS hardness between 7-7.5, this stone is softer than diamonds, rubies and sapphires but still harder than opals, pearls and turquoise. Clean your garnet jewelry with a soft toothbrush and mild hand soap. Never use steam cleaning or an ultrasonic, as it can potentially damage the stone.

Rhodiolite Garnet Meaning

Rhodolite garnet is a stone of the heart and of passion and love.  It is believed to help manifest your heart's desires, while also healing from trauma.

Like most of the stones I use in my designs, Rhodolite garnet has a special place and is used with this specific intention in the Hugged collection. The collection itself is a reminder that no matter what your journey is, you are not alone and are supported along the way.

Along with morganite, iolite and amethyst, this stone was specifically chosen for the support you need on your journey.
